Advanced Beekeeping Training
This training is the first session of a comprehensive, year-round Beekeeping Apprenticeship Program developed by SOILS as part of the AFIR Beekeeping and Nature Discovery Center. It is addressed to people who have a serious interest in learning about beekeeping or wish to start their own beehive.

Participants must have basic knowledge in beekeeping or must have completed one of our "Beekeeping Introductory Workshops".

The training will be conducted by SOILS member Bassam Khawand – a local "permaculture beekeeper" and president of the Saidoun Agriculture Cooperative.

Date: Saturday and Sunday, July 9-10, 2016
Arrival: Sat 25 July at 9:30 a.m.
Departure: Sun 26 July at 6:00 p.m.
Location: Saidoun village (Jezzine caza)
Accommodation: shared furnished studios (in the old school building)
Language: Arabic (translation available for non-Arabic speakers)

Program of the workshop
DAY 1  - Demonstration and practice:
  • How to start a beehive (site selection, buying hives and equipment, etc.)
  • Spring (frame preparation, swarming)
  • Summer (overview of honey collection)
  • Autumn (disease treatment, moving hives, feeding)
  • Winter (hive maintenance, disease treatment)

DAY 2 - Field Work:
  • Honey collection and extraction

What to bring
  • Boots or any high shoes that cover the ankles
  • Long-legged pants
  • Long-sleeved shirt
  • Cap or hat
  • Rubber band or something to tie long hair
  • Notebook

Participation fee
LBP 160,000/person (LBP 120,000 without accommodation)
Students or couples:
LBP 140,000/person (LBP 100,000 without accommodation)

Price includes:
-Training and material fees
- All meals (day 1: lunch, dinner - day 2: breakfast, lunch) + snacks/coffee break
- A small jar of honey
